Facial Skin Lifting and How to save yourself from Skin Deterioration.

What is a facial skin lifting?

A face-lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure to create a younger appearance in your face. Tightening of facial skin. The procedure can reduce the sagging or folds of skin on the cheeks and jawline and other changes in the shape of your face that occur with age.

During a face-lift, a flap of skin on each side of the face is pulled back, and tissues below the skin are surgically altered to return the contour of the face to a more youthful shape. Before the flap is sutured closed, excess skin is removed.

A neck lift is often done as part of a face-lift to reduce fat deposits and sagging skin on the neck.

A face-lift won't decrease fine creases or wrinkles in your skin or damage from sun exposure. Other cosmetic procedures can address the appearance or quality of the skin itself.

Types of facial skin lifting.

Facial rejuvenation is a very popular segment of cosmetic surgery. During the past decade much research has gone into advancing both the techniques and technologies used to reverse the signs of facial aging. Today, there are a number of treatment options that plastic surgeons can use to help their patients achieve a more youthful appearance in addition to traditional facelift surgery

Liquid Facelift.

Injectable dermal fillers made from hydroxyapatite, hyaluronic acid, or lactic acid calcium, can be used to non-surgically smooth creases and folds, plump lips, and fill hollowing areas.

Jaw Line Rejuvenation.

This procedure is especially good for revitalizing the area between the jaw and upper neck. Excess fat is removed from the neck via liposuction in order to sculpt the jaw line.

Mini Face Lift.

The mini-lift (or mini-facelift) is a facelift surgery technique that uses smaller incisions than traditional facelift techniques and thus it’s less invasive.

S-Lift.

The S-Lift procedure is sometimes used for treating the lower third of the face (neck and jowls). In this procedure an s-shaped incision is used to separate the skin from underlying tissue.

Mid-Facelift.

The mid-facelift is very effective in treating the mid-face (cheek) area. During this procedure a surgeon makes small incisions in the hairline above the ears, as well as within the mouth.

Cutaneous Lift (Skin Only).

Cutaneous facelifts address issues in the neck and lower face area. During the procedure incisions are made around the ear and within the hair line to allow doctors the ability to dissect the skin from underlying muscle.

Temporal Facelift or Browlift.

Temporal lifts focus on improving the eyebrow area. For individuals with slightly drooping or lowered eyebrows this type of lift can be a great alternative to give the eyebrow area a slight lift without having to undergo a full browlift procedure which is more invasive and requires a longer recover period.

MACS Lift / QuickLift.

Both the QuickLift and the MACS are modifications to the S-Lift technique discussed earlier. These procedures fall between the S-Lift and traditional facelift technique in both invasiveness and results.

Traditional Facelift.

The traditional facelift is an appropriate procedure for patient’s seeking optimal correction of moderate to significant facial aging. Incisions are positioned around the ears and into the hairline as well as a small incision below the chin.

Why We Need a Lifting.

As you get older, the appearance and shape of your face is altered because of normal age-related changes. Your skin becomes less elastic and looser, and fat deposits decrease in some areas of your face and increase in others. Age-related changes in your face that may be reduced with a face-lift include the following:

  • Sagging appearance of your cheeks;
  • Excess skin at your lower jawline (jowls);
  • Deepening of the fold of skin from the side of your nose to the corner of your mouth;
  • Sagging skin and excess fat in the neck (if the procedure includes a neck lift);

A face-lift isn't a treatment for superficial wrinkles, sun damage, creases around the nose and upper lip, or irregularities in skin color.

How to Save Yourself from Skin Deterioration.

Take responsibility for you own skin care.

The first line of defense in keeping your skin healthy is to take responsibility for your own skin care. If you are at risk for skin breakdown, you will need to develop a daily routine for monitoring and caring for your skin. You should do a complete inspection of your skin every day. If you are unable to assess your own skin, you should be knowledgeable about the areas of your body where you are most vulnerable to skin breakdown and be sure that your care givers are checking these areas for you and reporting the status of your skin.

Prevent mechanical Injury.

Prevent mechanical injury to the skin from friction and shearing forces during repositioning and transfers. Lift, don’t slide. Lowering the head of the bed will help minimize sheer and friction from sliding down in bed. Raise the entire bed up to the proper height to facilitate level surface transfers to and from a wheelchair. If necessary, use assistive devices, such as transfer boards or mechanical lifts to help with transfers.

Keep skin clean and dry.

Bathe frequently using mild soap. Avoid very hot water as it dries skin. Dry your skin by patting rather than rubbing. Change undergarments or pads as soon as possible after a bowel or bladder accident.

Eat a healthy diet.

Eat a healthy diet and drink lots of fluids, especially water. Keep your body weight in a healthy range. People that are overweight or underweight tend to have more problems with skin breakdown. Good nutrition will help make your skin more resistant to breakdown and you will be more likely to heal and fight off infection should it occur.

  • Omega 3 fatty acids (salmon, mackerel, flaxseed);
  • Vitamin C (citrus fruits, strawberries, broccoli);
  • Vitamin A (Vegetables that are dark green or dark orange in color);
  • Zinc (seafood, meat and eggs);
  • Protein (meat, eggs, cheese, and soy products);

What is the Best Treatment for Skin Tightening?

A surgical lift, such as a facelift or eyelid surgery, will give you the most dramatic results, but you'll find plenty of other skin-tightening options. These other options offer less downtime and lower cost. Another perk: Many can be used on just about any part of your body that needs a lift.

Laser resurfacing This is the most effective procedure for tightening loose skin. Unlike the laser treatment described above, this procedure requires some downtime. You'll need to stay home for 5 to 7 days. Laser resurfacing also gives you the fastest results.

A face-lift can give your face and neck a more youthful appearance. Face-lift results are not permanent. With age, the facial skin may begin to droop again. In general, a face-lift can be expected to last 10 years.
